A Wonderful Flat is supported by ECAM in the year 2023/24 within the framework of the documentary directing diploma program.
This project explores the housing bubble in Madrid from a generational perspective, revealing how real estate portals have become the gates of hell for those seeking a home.
The film combines a documentary approach with a visual exploration using a set built from an AutoCAD floor plan, representing an apartment with the minimum cadastral meters. Through this device, it examines the absurdity of fifty people lining up to rent a space meant for barely two humans. It reflects on how land, once a natural agent, is now governed solely by human agency, consuming our needs and suffocating us. By blending experimental aesthetics with documentary narrative, A Wonderful Flat exposes the dystopian reality of a world where the basic right to housing is controlled by online real estate portals.
When the earth ceases to be a natural agent and becomes governed solely by human agency. The land no longer serves but eats our needs and suffocates us more and more, we find ourselves in a reality where something like the right to housing is in the hands of real estate portals on the internet.
